Office of Operation Wealth Creation-OWC Delivers 15 Tones of Maize and Soyabeans Seeds to Boost Amolatar Farmers’ Production Capacity.
The the seed distribution were part of the OWC that sub contracted Equatorial Seed dealers after Amolatar Signing MoU with them to deliver the seed to Amolatar Farmers through cooperative Unions.
The Operation Wealth Creation coordinator for Amolatar, Rtd Col. Simba, stressed the importance of ensuring that the seeds reach the intended beneficiaries.
Additionally, the production officer, Mr. Francis Ojok, mentioned that OWC has signed a contract with Equatorial Seed dealers to supply seeds to cooperative groups in Amolatar.
He stated that this initiative is designed to enhance the production capabilities of the growers.
He also indicated that they will register individuals from within the cooperatives to benefit from the seeds.
Hon. Okao Kizito, the Agikdak male councilor for the district, commended Operation Wealth Creation for delivering the seeds on time, noting that this will support local millers in Amolatar through cooperation.
Awio Mike, the secretary for production and works, echoed the sentiment regarding the timely arrival of the seeds, emphasizing the need to test the seeds before distribution to farmers.
He added that the variety provided today is new and urged farmers to receive training on planting techniques.
According to the regional coordinator of Equatorial Seed, Ms. Apok, the seeds were provided by Operation Wealth Creation, which supplied 10 tons of maize seed and 5 tons of soya seed.
She noted that this initiative aims to revitalize the underutilized agro-processing facilities in Amolatar.
Furthermore, she emphasized that the seeds are permitted to be planted exclusively within the district.
The assistant RDC, Ms. Sarah Tyan, praised the Ugandan government for consistently supporting farmers in Amolatar, describing it as a significant opportunity for them.
She appealed for early planting by the beneficiaries and urged them to refrain from selling the seeds once received.
Furthermore, she requested that the production officer ensure that extension officers reach farmers to guide them on best farming practices.
