Children of God have been urged to desist from false prophets who have become widespread in Uganda today. The call was made by Rev. Canon Robert Edinga, Archdeacon of Oyam Urban Archdeaconry and Zonal Coordinator of Oyam District in Diocese of West Lango, during a historic service at Apworocero Parish headquarters. The occasion featured the confirmation of 157 candidates, the commissioning of the Reverend’s house, and the official opening of Apworocero Parish.

In his sermon, Rev. Canon Edinga cautioned Christians, particularly those confirmed, to be vigilant against false prophets who are often introduced by friends. He emphasized that the current times are critical, requiring believers to exercise wisdom in differentiating between true servants of God and deceivers. He noted that many individuals now claim to be miracle workers while extorting money from believers, deceiving them with promises of recovering lost property, yet relying on witchcraft powers. He strongly urged Christians to resist such practices and remain firm in their faith.
Rev. Canon Edinga further advised Christians of Apworocero Parish not to engage in land wrangles with the Church, stressing that the land and parish officially opened today belong to God and not to any individual. He reminded the faithful that the Church’s mission is divine, and disputes over land ownership should not interfere with its spiritual purpose.

Rev. Peter Otim, commonly known as Peter Boy of Apworocero Parish in Minakulu Archdeaconry, expressed gratitude to the Bishop of West Lango Diocese for undertaking three pastoral works in one day. These included commissioning the Reverend’s house, officially opening Apworocero Parish, and confirming 157 candidates. He described the day as a positive milestone and appreciated the cooperation of the community and church members in making the event successful.
Some Christians who spoke to our reporter after their confirmation expressed excitement, saying the occasion marked a turning point in their lives. They noted that the spiritual experience would help them move away from past negative experiences and embrace a renewed commitment to their faith.

In his message to the newly confirmed candidates, Rt. Rev. Julios Ceasor Nina, Bishop of West Lango Diocese, prayed for them and encouraged them to go into the world as examples of Christian living. He urged them to make others followers of Jesus Christ through their actions and daily conduct, reminding them that their confirmation was not only a personal milestone but also a call to mission in society.
