Amolatar District commenced 250 Modern Mortuary construction at Amolatar Health Centre IV
The Ground breaking ceremony officiated by Amolatar District Chairperson LC5, Morish Ogwal Omara, shows significant mortuary construction through a public-private partnership between Amolatar District Local Government and the Amolatar Woman Member of Parliament, Janet Auma Okao, following a resolution passed by the District Council.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Ogwal Omara appreciated Janet Auma Okao for supporting the construction of the mortuary, noting that the facility will address a critical gap in the district health sector.
He said the project will be the first of its kind in the region and called upon other development partners and well-wishers to support the district in areas where there are service delivery gaps.

The District Chief Administrative Officer, Rodha Oroma, thanked Auma for the intervention, noting that the district lacked sufficient resources to construct a modern mortuary despite the facility being an important component of health service delivery.
Oroma said the project comes at a timely moment as the district is lobbying with ministry of health to elevate Amolatar Health Centre IV to a district hospital. She pledged that the district would engage an engineer to supervise the construction works and ensure that the project complies with national building standards and specifications.

The In-Charge of Amolatar Health Centre IV, Dr. Luru Walter, welcomed the project, saying the health facility has faced challenges in preserving bodies due to the absence of a modern mortuary.
Dr. Luru said when completed the mortuary will reduce the burden on families who currently incur high costs transporting and preserving bodies of their loved ones at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. He pledged that the facility would be properly managed to ensure it serves the community effectively.

Representing Janet Auma Okao at the ceremony, Sam Omara, proprietor of Uganda Christian Institute for Professional Development, pledged to ensure quality workmanship throughout the project.

The mortuary is expected to cost approximately Shs 250 million. Omara said the project would cost about 250 million, they will make use of locally available building materials and provide employment opportunities to members of the local community.
