Residents of Ogobi Cell in Aduku Town Council and Otorongole Village in Abany Parish, Abongomola Sub-county, Kwania District, have welcomed renewed support for clean water after more than a decade of shortages that forced families to rely on unsafe or distant sources.

The intervention was launched over the weekend in Ogobi Cell and follows major rehabilitation of boreholes in both Ogobi and Otorongole.

The project is backed by Kwania District Chairperson George Kakoma Akacha and Kwania North MP James Ongu Tar. Local leaders say the two have helped raise a long-running community concern to district and national attention.

Akacha noted that Kwania District is currently working with three organisations — Everflow, SNV and Field of Hope — to improve access to safe water.

He highlighted that the partners are supporting clean drinking water through continued maintenance, repairs and improvement of water sources, with the aim of ensuring that communities benefit for a longer period.

"The district is not only focused on fixing broken facilities, but also on preventing newly restored water points from falling back into disuse. Water points must be protected through routine follow-up, timely repairs and community cooperation," Akacha said.

Akacha also praised James Ongu Tar, the MP for Kwania North, for continuing to pursue support for the water cause beyond the campaign period.
He said residents judge leaders not only by the promises they make while seeking office, but by whether those promises later translate into services.

Tonny Okello, an aspirant for LC1 Chairperson of Ogobi Cell in Aduku Town Council, said the area needs leaders who pay attention to ordinary people's problems and are willing to work across levels of government.

He commended MP Ongu Tar, LC5 Chairperson Akacha and other local representatives for responding to the community's appeal.
Okello said development in Kwania depends on leaders who can link village concerns to district and national channels. He added that the rehabilitation of the water sources showed why community concerns must be recorded and pushed beyond the village when they require resources that a single cell or village cannot raise on its own.

Jimmy Ohuru, the LC1 Chairperson of Township Cell in Aduku Town Council, made a similar appeal. He linked the forthcoming LC1 elections to broader government planning frameworks, including Vision 2040 and the Fourth National Development Plan. He said residents should use the vote to support leaders focused on development.

Ohuru cautioned against choosing leaders out of anger, division or personal pressure. He said national plans can only be felt by ordinary people when lower councils are organised enough to monitor community needs and work with higher offices that control larger budgets and programmes.

Several residents echoed the leaders' message while thanking them for the water support. Eunice Okullu, Simpo Aoli and Denis Otim Akac were among those who said the effort had come after a long period in which the community's water concerns remained unresolved.
