Seven districts are set to represent the Lango Sub-region in the National Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) competitions.
Seven districts are set to represent the Lango Sub-region in the National Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) competitions, which are scheduled to begin on 24 August in Iganga District.
Nine schools contributed choirs to participate in the three-day Okeme Regional Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) Festival, held at the Conan Lawrence–All Saints University campus in Boroboro.
The participating schools were Tekidi Primary School from Kole, Akwete Primary School from Alebtong, Akangi Primary School from Lira District, Amolatar Primary School from Amolatar, Iguli Primary School from Dokolo, Angweta Primary School from Oyam, Ayago Primary School from Apac District, Oboko Primary School from Otuke, and Aporwegi Primary School from Kwania.

Martin Isaac Abwango, chairperson of the regional Okeme MDD, said that out of the 11 districts, city and municipality authorities in Lango, eight choirs participated.
He said Kwania District did not fully participate in this year's edition and is expected to take part next year.
Abwango called on district education authorities in Lango to strengthen their support for choirs and to ensure that districts prepare well for MDD competitions.
He said MDD should be treated as an important activity that deserves support from the grassroots level up to the national level.
Andrew Omunu, the Kwania District Education Officer, said preparations at the district level did not go well, which affected the competition.
He explained that the district eventually sent Aporwegi Primary School in Aduku Sub-county, which had some of the necessary resources, to represent the district.
Omunu said that next year, the district will make arrangements to ensure that it sends a choir that can compete from the lower levels through to the higher levels.
After the three-day music competition, the schools obtained the following scores:
1. Tekidi Primary School – Kole: 1,096 marks
2. Akwete Primary School – Alebtong: 1,073 marks
3. Akangi Primary School – Lira District: 1,062 marks
4. Amolatar Primary School – Amolatar: 1,032 marks
5. Iguli Primary School – Dokolo: 974 marks
6. Angweta Primary School – Oyam: 925 marks
7. Ayago Primary School – Apac District: 859 marks
