UPDF's Col Ikiriza Warns Kitende Students Against Pornography, Corruption

What the report says
A senior Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces officer has warned students at Kitende Secondary School to avoid pornography, corruption, theft, negative peer influence and careless use of social media, saying such behaviour can damage discipline, education and future opportunities. The remarks were delivered by Col Night Ikiriza, director of Human Resource Management at the Special Forces Command, during a school engagement focused on patriotism and mindset change.
According to Nile Post, Ikiriza spoke on behalf of SFC Commander Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru and urged learners to build integrity, personal responsibility and self-discipline. She encouraged them to take ownership of decisions at school and at home, stay focused on their studies, and treat academic setbacks as a chance to improve rather than give up on their ambitions.
She also called on the students to value Uganda’s peace, support national development efforts, and embrace broader ideas such as East African integration and Pan-Africanism. Her message stressed that patriotism should begin with self-respect and disciplined conduct.
The outreach was part of the UPDF’s wider engagement programme, through which officers meet students and other groups to discuss leadership, citizenship, career development and civic responsibility. More broadly, such school visits are often used in Uganda to reinforce moral and academic expectations among young people, though the specific warning in this case centered on the conduct and choices of Kitende students.
