Kwania Health Centres to Contribute Shs300,000 Each for Ambulance Operations
Kwania district leaders have approved a Shs300,000 contribution from each Health Centre III and IV in the eleven sub-counties and town councils to support the effective operation of ambulances.
Dr. David Okino, the Kwania District Health Officer, said they held discussions with health centre in-charges and agreed that the money would be drawn from the Primary Health Care funds.
Dr. Okino said nine government health facilities, including Aduku Health Centre IV and several Health Centre IIIs, will contribute the funds to facilitate the referral of patients.
Dr. Patrick Ogwal, the in-charge of Aduku Health Centre IV, urged health workers to comply with patient referral guidelines.
George Kakaoma Akacha, the LC5 Chairperson of Kwania District, warned health workers against demanding bribes from patients as a condition for accessing ambulance services.
Akacha also urged health centre in-charges to remit the funds to facilitate the prompt referral of patients.
According to a report released by Kwania District Health Biostatistician Brian Olum for the 2025/2026 financial year, the district recorded 203 emergency health cases.
Of these, 46 percent received prompt care, 19 percent were referred using ambulances, while 32 percent were referred using vehicles belonging to police and politicians.
