Apac school SMC struggling to recover school land sold off by former leaders

The school management committee (SMC) of Wansolo Primary School in Apoi Sub-county, Apac District is struggling to recover part of the school land which was allegedly sold off by the former school SMC.

The land in question is a 4 acre part of 37 acres of land which was donated by a well wisher for the establishment of Wansolo Primary School.

Benson Eper, the current chairperson SMC of Wansolo Primary School is alleging that this land was sold off before he took over the leadership of this school

“When I took over office as the chairman SMC, I found that some people were using a portion of the school land and they told us that it was sold to them by the then SMC,” he said in a telephone interview on Monday August 3, 2026.

He added that the school has given up to January next year for those who have bought the land in question to evacuate it.

“We have talked to those who bought the land and we have given them some few months to harvest their crops in the garden and leave that land,” he said.

However, when contacted for a comment, Sam Oruk, the former chairperson SMC of Wansolo Primary School who also doubles as the clan leader of those who donated the school land said that the land sold was not part of the school land.

“That land was donated by the member of my clan and its 37 acres and it still remain the same. That one sold is not part of the school land. The school land was not touch,” he said.

Robert Olinga Otolo, the person who donated this land said that there are some group of people who have been fighting with him over this land.

“There are some people who wanted to grab that land and they took me to court but I defeated them.

Apac Deputy RDC, Richard Tabaro said that a probe will be instituted to address this issue in case the matter is reported to their office.

“I am not yet aware of the matter but we can help the address it. Let them make a formal report to the office of the RDC, some four concerned parents can write to the office of the RDC and we shall take it up from there,” he said.
