Mp James Ongu Tarr's 100 days in office: Kwania North feels a new wave of service delivery

Kwania, Uganda - Just three months since he took oath as the Member of Parliament for Kwania North County, Hon. James Ongu Tarr is already rewriting the story of leadership in Kwania District with visible, people-centered interventions.

In a short period, the legislator has championed access to clean and safe water by repairing more than 15 non-functional boreholes that had left several villages in a water crisis. He has also boosted the health sector by buying a brand new ambulance to handle emergency referrals, contributed to social protection programs for the vulnerable, and successfully lobbied for the rehabilitation of the Loro-Aduku-Nambieco road, a key economic road that had been abandoned for over 15 years and become a death trap for travellers.

Residents and local leaders across Kwania North say the impact is already being felt on the ground.

In Aduku Sub-county, James Adupa said the return of clean water has restored dignity to families.

"For years our mothers walked long distances to fetch water from swamps. In just three months, Hon. Ongu Tarr has repaired our boreholes and now our children are drinking clean water. This is true servant leadership. We have not seen such speed before," Adupa said.

In Abongomola Sub-county, Bosoco Olal praised the MP for remembering the forgotten road.

"The Loro-Aduku-Nambieco road was abandoned for over 15 years. Many accidents happened here, many mothers lost their lives trying to reach health centres. Hon. James Ongu Tarr has lobbied and now machines are on the road. He is a leader who listens to the cry of his people," Olal said.

In Aduku Town Council, Alex Ayo said the new ambulance is a game changer for emergency health services.

"What Hon. Ongu Tarr has done with the ambulance is saving lives. Before, we used to hire private cars at Shs 300,000 to take patients to Lira. Now we have hope. He is a leader with a heart for his people," Ayo noted.

And in Akali Sub-county, Sam Etura said the MP’s support to social protection programs shows inclusive leadership.

"He has not forgotten the elderly, the persons with disabilities and the youth. His contributions to social protection programs have given hope to many vulnerable households. Kwania North finally has an MP who works for everyone, not just a few," Etura said.

Residents say Hon. James Ongu Tarr’s first three months have set a high bar, combining lobbying, direct service and quick response to community needs, and they are optimistic that Kwania North is on the path to transformation.
