Uganda: MP Nyakato Urges Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima Road Contractor to Expedite Works

What the report says
Hoima City Woman MP Asinansi Nyakato is pressing the contractor working on the Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima road in western Uganda to speed up rehabilitation and widening works and finish within the agreed schedule. The project covers 145 kilometres and is being handled by Abubaker Technical Services, according to the report published by Nile Post and distributed by AllAfrica.
The article says the road project began in December 2023 and was first expected to be completed in April 2026, but delays have pushed the likely finish into late 2026 or early 2027. By mid-2026, project officials estimated progress at about 35% to 40%. Nyakato, who also serves as Shadow Minister for Works and Transport, argued that the contractor no longer had a funding excuse after the Ministry of Finance released money for the work.
She also rejected the idea that compensation for affected residents was still holding up the project, saying that process had been completed earlier. In her account, the contractor raised supply problems for imported construction materials, including bitumen, and linked some setbacks to disruptions connected to the war in Iran. The contractor has meanwhile started work on a section in Hoima City, including the Hoima-Kinubi stretch.
The report adds that local leaders and residents have complained about the poor state of the road. It also notes that the section in Hoima is being worked on as Uganda prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which it will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
