What the report says

Hoima City Woman MP Asinansi Nyakato has called on Abubaker Technical Services to speed up rehabilitation work on the 145-kilometre Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima road, saying delays should be reduced as Uganda prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The Nile Post report says Nyakato, who also serves as Shadow Minister for Works and Transport, argued that funding concerns had already been addressed and that the contractor should now focus on meeting the agreed timetable.

The project began in December 2023 and was first expected to finish in April 2026, but the completion date has since moved to late 2026 or early 2027. Project officials were cited as estimating mid-2026 physical progress at about 35% to 40%. Nyakato said compensation of affected persons was completed long ago and should not be used as an explanation for the slowdown.

According to the report, the contractor told her that some delays were linked to difficulties sourcing imported materials, including bitumen, and to disruptions related to the war in Iran. Engineer Baldo Kiniga, the project manager, said extra equipment had been deployed on the Hoima section and that the team wants to finish within the contractual period.

The road is considered important for Hoima and surrounding areas, especially with infrastructure upgrades expected ahead of Uganda’s co-hosting of AFCON 2027 with Kenya and Tanzania. Local leaders quoted in the article said the poor state of the road has remained a concern for residents.
