What the report says

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Jonard Asiimwe has given Shs100 million to support construction work at Hoima Mosque and the Bunyoro-Tooro Muslim Regional Office in Hoima City, according to Nile Post. The money is intended for materials such as paint, tiles and cement, helping restart projects that Muslim leaders say have been slowed by funding shortages.

Hoima District Kadhi Sheikh Rajab Mugeny said the regional office has been under construction since 2020 but remains unfinished, with total costs estimated at more than Shs400 million. He said the office would help coordinate development programmes for more than 350,000 Muslims in the Bunyoro-Tooro region. Mugeny thanked Asiimwe for the donation and said it could revive work on the stalled structure.

Asiimwe also said he would support other local initiatives, including a classroom block at Bwikya Primary School and computers for Bwikya Muslim Secondary School. He urged project committees to use donations responsibly and called for unity in community efforts, saying division can undermine development and make it harder to attract support.

Mugeny also said completing Hoima Mosque is important because of its location near Hoima Stadium, which is expected to be relevant ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. He said the mosque could serve Muslim players and visitors, while Hoima City Mayor Edward Isingoma separately appealed for cleanliness as the city continues to grow.
