Govt, NCS Hand 100 Acres to UPDF for Sir Tito Winyi Stadium Construction

What the report says
Government, through the Ministry of Education and Sports and the National Council of Sports, has handed 100 acres in Bulindi Town Council, Hoima District, to the UPDF Engineering Brigade for construction of Sir Tito Winyi Stadium. Nile Post reports that the Shs17 billion first phase is intended to serve as an AFCON 2027 training facility, with Uganda set to co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania. Officials said the initial works should be finished within about six months so the Confederation of African Football can inspect the venue before the event.
The handover took place at Sir Tito Winyi Secondary School playground. According to the report, the broader plan includes a national sports academy on the same land, which officials say would strengthen talent development in the Bunyoro sub-region. The UPDF Engineering Brigade said the first phase will cover changing rooms, pitch works, a running track, a guard house, a power house, and mechanical and electrical installations.
Local leaders and school officials welcomed the project, while also calling for jobs for residents and support for the surrounding community. The Church of Uganda, through the Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, is said to have agreed to sell the land after earlier disagreements. NCS officials said the project could bring long-term economic and sporting benefits, and also indicated that plans are being considered to refurbish the nearby secondary school and improve access roads. General background: Uganda has been expanding sports infrastructure ahead of major continental events, and regional projects are often presented as both athletic and economic development efforts.
