Uganda to be under 4 hour lockdown on Saturday for National Cleaning Day

Uganda will observe a 4-hour movement restriction tomorrow, Saturday July 25, to enforce National Cleaning Day, Police have confirmed.

From 7:00 am to 10:00 am, travel will be prohibited to ensure citizens remain in their areas and take part in community clean-up activities.

Police said the measure will allow full participation in cleaning homes, streets, and public spaces.

The restriction aligns with a Cabinet directive that designated the last Saturday of every month as National Cleaning Day.

The program requires citizens to participate in activities including bush clearing, refuse collection, clearing stagnant water, and desalting drainage channels among others.

North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema appealed to the media practitioners to help in mobilization so that the community fully participate in this exercise.

“I am request all radio stations to popularize this program. Mindset of the population must change otherwise we shall arrest very many tomorrow,” he said.

In Apac District, the security committee held a meeting today with the sub-county leaders in preparation for the official launch of the program.

Apac Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Richard Tabaro called for the cooperation from the community for the success of the program.
