Harriet Asaba Wins Hoima NRM Women’s League Chairperson Race by Wide Margin

What the report says
Harriet Asaba has won the National Resistance Movement’s flag for Hoima District Women’s Council chairperson after defeating Suzan Asiimwe in an internal party election held at Kitoba Sub-county headquarters in Hoima District. According to Nile Post, Asaba received 12 votes, while Asiimwe got two, giving Asaba a clear margin in the contest.
The election was part of a wider selection process for Hoima District Women’s Council executive positions. Other slots included vice chairperson, secretary for publicity and secretary for finance. The vice chairperson race was won by Naume Nsungwa, while Evelyn Kyererezi and Aisha Fambe were unopposed for secretary for finance and secretary for publicity, respectively.
After the result, Asiimwe conceded and said the voters’ decision should be respected. She also said she would not stand as an independent in the general election. Asaba called for unity among supporters and said she would work with women across Hoima if elected. Hoima District Woman MP Beatrice Wembabazi also attended and encouraged more women to take part in leadership.
Nile Post reported that the district NRM registrar, Francis Tumwesige, oversaw the process and urged candidates to keep mobilizing ahead of the general election scheduled for August 28, 2026. The result matters because it determines the party-backed contender in a local women’s leadership race, which can shape representation and grassroots mobilization within the district.
