Alebtong NRM Party chairman held over alleged theft of LC1 elections campaign funds

Police in Alebtong District have arrested the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party chairman of Aloi Town Council over allegations of theft of Shs 14.2 million for the LC1 elections mobilization.

Sam Otiti, a resident of Aloi Town Council was arrested on Wednesday July 22, 2026 after he allegedly received the fund and diverted it into his own pocket.

According to a police report, the matter was reported to the office of the Resident District Commissioner of Alebtong District who ordered for the arrest of the suspect.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the matter have already commenced.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect’s file will be compiled and later submitted to Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance before court of law,” he said.

He condemned that act graft which has become very common among the NRM Party leaders.

“It's quite unfortunate that this is the second allegations coming up after Amolatar. We continue to caution those with criminal minds to stop and give out the money as planned by the party secretariat,” he added.
