Uganda women’s handball team targets TZ triumph

What the report says
Uganda’s national women’s handball team is competing at the IHF Women’s Trophy Zone V Championship in Kibaha, Tanzania, with the aim of securing a place in continental qualification. The regional tournament began on November 4 and is scheduled to run through November 8, according to The Observer. Uganda sent a 16-player squad to the event.
The team was officially flagged off on Monday by National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary Milton Chebet, who encouraged the players to approach the competition professionally and to use social media to promote themselves and the sport. Uganda Handball Federation president Fredrick Balenzi thanked the National Council of Sports and the International Handball Federation for supporting the campaign.
The tournament carries added importance because the top two finishers in the Zone V event will qualify automatically for the Africa Cup, making the result significant for Uganda’s wider international ambitions. The report also listed the squad members and team officials travelling with the delegation, underscoring the country’s attempt to build momentum in women’s handball at regional level.
More broadly, regional qualification events like this are often an important pathway for emerging teams to reach larger continental competitions, giving players exposure and a chance to test themselves against neighboring countries.
