Kyaggwe joins the table of men in Masaza Cup

What the report says
Kyaggwe have won their first Masaza Cup title after beating five-time champions Gomba 1-0 on Saturday, October 31, at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku, according to The Observer. The result ended a long run of near-misses for the county, which had often reached the later stages of the tournament but had not previously lifted the trophy.
The newspaper reported that the winning goal came in the 74th minute through Kato George Isingoma, who had come off the bench and linked up well with David Mugalu before scoring. Kyaggwe’s path to the final included finishing top of their group on 23 points, then eliminating Mawogola 5-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals and Bugerere 1-0 on aggregate in the semi-finals. The victory also raised the number of counties that have won the competition to 11.
The Observer also noted the broader significance of the result for the Masaza Cup, which remains an important football and cultural event in Buganda. In a separate development at the same tournament, Centenary Bank reaffirmed its sponsorship by contributing Shs 200 million toward the 2026 competition and awarding a Shs 1 million prize to top scorer Mohamed Kasule. The bank said the tournament helps develop talent and promote unity, while supporting Buganda’s sporting and cultural identity.
