What the report says

Ugandan businessman and Ruparelia Group chairman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia has announced Paradise Island Resort, a new 19-acre private island development on Lake Victoria aimed at expanding Uganda’s luxury hospitality offering, according to Watchdog Uganda. The resort is planned to open to guests on 1 December 2026 and is located about a 20-minute speedboat ride from Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala’s wider hospitality corridor.

The project adds to the Speke Group of Hotels portfolio and is being positioned as an eco-luxury destination focused on privacy, scenery and high-end service. Watchdog Uganda reported that the resort will have 38 accommodation units developed in two phases, including standard cottages, cliffhanger cottages with lake views, deluxe two-bedroom cottages and executive villas. The site is also expected to include a man-made beach, infinity pool, fine-dining spaces, wellness facilities and venues for weddings and corporate retreats.

Environmental design is a central selling point of the project. The article says the resort is intended to operate as a solar-powered eco-lodge without diesel generators, while preserving indigenous vegetation and the island’s natural terrain. Director Sheena Ruparelia said the build took five years and began in May 2021.

The launch fits into a broader push to diversify Uganda’s tourism beyond wildlife and gorilla trekking by attracting premium leisure travelers, event organizers and conference guests. The project also reinforces the Ruparelia Group’s existing hotel network, which includes Speke Resort Munyonyo, Speke Hotel, Kabira Country Club, Speke Apartments, Forest Cottages and Dolphin Suites.
