Mercy Kanyesigye Elected Chairperson as Kassanda MP Bisaso Joins Executive Committee of Parliamentary Youth Forum

What the report says
KAMPALA — The Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Youth Affairs (UPFYA) has named a new executive committee for the 12th Parliament, with National Female Youth MP Mercy Kanyesigye elected chairperson. The leadership change was announced in an official Parliament update and came after youth MPs endorsed the new team at the caucus annual general meeting, according to Watchdog Uganda.
The committee includes Central Region Youth MP Samuel Begira as vice chairperson, Mwine Tumwebaze as publicity secretary and Elma Kapel Challa as general secretary. Kassanda South MP Abdul Bisaso was appointed Central Region coordinator, while Fiona Nakku, Viola Namanya and Rose Obigah were named coordinators for the Eastern, Western and Northern regions, respectively.
Kanyesigye said she was grateful for the confidence placed in her and pledged to lead an inclusive advocacy agenda. She also thanked development partners including the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy for supporting parliamentary youth work, as reported by the publisher.
UPFYA serves as a legislative advocacy platform focused on youth priorities such as skills development, jobs, access to government programmes and civic participation. The new team takes office immediately, giving the forum a fresh leadership structure as Parliament continues work on youth-centered policy and oversight.
