Uganda Film Festival Launches Nationwide Screenings and Industry Trainings

What the report says
The Uganda Communications Commission, working with MultiChoice Uganda, has launched nationwide screenings for the 13th Uganda Film Festival, with events running across several cinemas in Uganda this week. According to Watchdog Uganda, the program began in Kampala on 21 August 2026 and is set to continue through the period leading up to the festival’s Awards Gala on 28 August 2026.
The screenings focus on films nominated for the Viewers’ Choice category, which is decided by public voting. Titles listed in the coverage include Adui, You May Kiss the Bride Goodbye, Longing to Belong, Waka Waka and Maama Wange, among others. The films are being shown at venues including Century Cinemax locations at Acacia Mall, Arena Mall and Metroplex Mall in Naalya, as well as EMT Cinema and NuMax Cinema in Entebbe.
Alongside the cinema run, the festival is hosting a three-day Screenwriting Masterclass at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology in Nakawa. The training sessions, led by the Screen Writers Guild Uganda, are intended to strengthen local skills in writing, distribution and the commercialization of audio-visual content.
The report says the festival also held regional competitions and workshops earlier in the year in Soroti, Luwero, Arua and Hoima to identify talent from different parts of the country. UCC and MultiChoice Uganda describe the initiative as part of broader efforts to support Uganda’s creative economy and give local filmmakers wider public visibility.
