Cavendish Graduates Challenged to Create Jobs, Drive Impact

What the report says
Cavendish University Uganda used its 15th graduation ceremony to urge newly graduated students to focus on job creation, entrepreneurship and community impact rather than depending only on the formal employment market. The event took place at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, where 1,059 students graduated under the theme “Graduating Global Talent for Employment, Entrepreneurship and Impact.”
The guest of honour, Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Minister Sanjay Gokaldas Tanna, told graduates to show employers and society the value they can offer. He said government should help create an enabling environment, while business and entrepreneurs are central to generating jobs. His remarks emphasized courage, innovation and value creation as graduates begin their careers.
Cavendish University Uganda Chancellor and former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan also encouraged the graduates to look beyond academic credentials and financial gain. He called on them to build employable skills, embrace entrepreneurship and pursue work with lasting social benefit. The university said the Class of 2026 adds to its growing alumni community, which now stands at 13,481 across 15 graduation ceremonies.
The ceremony highlighted a broader message often echoed in higher education and workforce development: that graduates can contribute to economic growth not only as job seekers, but also as creators of opportunities and solutions in their communities.
