Police probe what triggered Bunga family tragedy as new details emerge

What the report says
Police in Kampala are investigating a violent incident in Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, that left two children dead and three others seriously injured. According to The Independent Uganda’s report, detectives are trying to establish what happened inside the family home, including a reported disagreement the day before the attack, the discovery of a five-litre jerrycan suspected to have held petrol, and a Toyota Hiace that caught fire at the compound.
The article says the alarm was raised around 4 a.m. when a housemaid heard cries for help and found children with severe stab wounds. Neighbours and local leaders described a chaotic rescue effort, with some residents climbing over the wall to reach the children. Witness accounts included claims that one injured child blamed the mother, but police have not independently confirmed that version and say the motive is still unknown.
The children’s mother, 43-year-old Dorothy Namayo, a Kenyan national, is being treated at Mulago National Referral Hospital under police guard. Police say she was also injured at the scene and will be questioned when her condition allows. Fire and homicide investigators have collected exhibits and recorded statements as they work to reconstruct the events and determine how the fire began.
The report adds that the case has unsettled residents in an area that has already seen another deadly child-killing incident this year, though police say the two cases are not linked. That background has intensified concern about child safety in Ggaba Parish while investigators continue their work.
