Asiimwe Urges Discipline, Patriotism as Kiira Motors Scales Up Vehicle Production

What the report says
Uganda’s Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Jonard Asiimwe, has called on employees at Kiira Motors Corporation to uphold discipline, patriotism and integrity as the state-linked automaker expands production. According to Nile Post, he made the remarks during engagements with engineers, technicians, operators and other staff involved in the company’s manufacturing operations.
Asiimwe said the growth of Uganda’s automotive sector will depend not only on equipment and factory infrastructure, but also on a skilled and committed workforce. He urged workers to reject corruption, arrive on time and remain focused on their duties, arguing that those habits are part of building a stronger national industry. He also stressed that government should continue investing in, training and retaining the people needed to keep the sector viable as output increases.
The minister framed Kiira Motors’ progress as part of a wider industrialisation effort, saying the company’s impact should be judged by more than its buildings and production lines. He said the goal is to show that Uganda can design and manufacture vehicles for domestic and regional markets, including buses and other vehicle types.
The comments come as Uganda continues to develop its local automotive ambitions. In general, such efforts are often seen as important for job creation, skills development and reducing dependence on imports, though the article focuses on the workforce and governance side of Kiira Motors’ expansion rather than on new production figures or timelines.
