Uganda: Housing Finance Bank to Lead Real Estate and Infrastructure Dialogue in Mbarara

What the report says
Housing Finance Bank is set to take part in the Ankole Real Estate & Infrastructure Conference in Mbarara on August 21, 2026, as part of Knight Frank Uganda’s REDi initiative. According to Nile Post, the event will bring together developers, financiers, urban planners, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss property investment and infrastructure needs in Western Uganda.
The conference is being held in Mbarara, a fast-growing commercial centre serving the wider Ankole region, where population growth and rising business activity are increasing demand for housing, commercial property and better infrastructure. The discussion is intended to explore both the opportunities and the constraints facing the local real estate market, including the need for more suitable financing options and more coordinated urban development.
Housing Finance Bank said it plans to focus on lending models that fit how many Ugandans build and invest, rather than relying only on conventional mortgage structures. The bank highlighted products such as incremental housing finance, including its Zimba Mpola Mpola loan, which allows customers to build in stages.
The Mbarara meeting follows a similar conference in Gulu that examined investment potential in Northern Uganda. Taken together, the engagements show a broader effort to examine how regional towns outside Kampala can attract real estate investment and convert growth into practical development.
