Uganda and Ethiopia have agreed to strengthen their bilateral relationship by focusing on trade, investment and air connectivity, according to Nile Post. The discussions took place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Kampala, where Foreign Affairs Minister Adonia Ayebare received Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, for a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two officials reviewed the current state of relations and said they wanted to deepen cooperation for mutual benefit. Yimenu also conveyed congratulations from Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Gedion Timothewos and expressed confidence that Uganda’s foreign policy would continue to support regional peace, integration and prosperity. The meeting highlighted a shared interest in expanding economic ties while improving practical links between the two countries.

According to the report, both sides agreed to prioritize trade, investment and air connectivity as key areas for future work. They also welcomed plans for a mid-term review of the Uganda-Ethiopia Joint Ministerial Commission, which is expected to assess progress under existing agreements, address unresolved issues and identify new areas of cooperation.

The talks also touched on multilateral issues, including the upcoming COP32 climate conference in Addis Ababa. The officials said the meeting would give African countries an opportunity to shape common positions on climate action, adaptation and climate finance.
