Three arrested at Prince Junior School Gayaza over PLE anomalies

What the report says
Police and Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) monitors have arrested three people at Prince Junior School in Gayaza, Wakiso District, over alleged irregularities involving Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) papers, according to The Independent Uganda and URN. The suspects named in the report are the school director and acting head teacher, Hajjat Lazia Nasanga; a mathematics teacher identified as Mulindwa; and UNEB scout Margaret Nankabirwa, who had reportedly been deployed from Kayunga District.
UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule-Musamba said Nasanga is accused of working with Nankabirwa to open a sealed examination envelope and remove a paper. The paper was then allegedly passed to the teacher to help prepare answers and a marking guide for candidates. The three were taken to Kasangati Police Station and were expected to face charges related to examination malpractice.
The report also says a separate arrest was made at Ndagaalo Primary School in Rubirizi District, where another UNEB scout, Kasango Bumaali, was allegedly found photographing an examination paper after delivery to the centre and sharing the images. UNEB said such conduct threatens the integrity of national exams and comes amid a wider crackdown on malpractice during the ongoing PLE period.
The article notes that examination malpractice is punishable under Uganda’s UNEB Act, which sets penalties that can include prison time, fines, or both. UNEB urged supervisors, invigilators and other stakeholders to stay vigilant as remaining papers continued under heightened supervision.
