Police probe comedian Kapere’s sudden death

What the report says
Police in Uganda have opened an investigation into the sudden death of comedian Yokana Mbuuse, widely known as Kapere Lufotose, after he collapsed while attending a school event for his daughter in Wakiso district. The Observer reported that the 56-year-old was at Jolivo Day Care and Junior School in Kyimbejja on Sunday for a visitation and graduation ceremony when he began complaining of a severe headache and later fell ill in front of his wife, Lydia Nakandi, and other parents.
According to the account in the article, Kapere had arrived in a cheerful mood and was watching his daughter perform before his condition worsened. He was first taken to a nearby clinic and then referred to Royale Health Services Hospital in Buddo, where he was pronounced dead later that evening. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said officers had begun inquiries and that a post-mortem would be carried out to determine the cause of death.
Nakandi told journalists that Kapere had been worried about money and rent shortly before collapsing. The report also places his death in the context of a long entertainment career: he rose to prominence with the Amarula Family comedy group, became known through TV comedy skits, and appeared in music videos. Beyond comedy, he was also active as a supporter of the National Unity Platform, prompting tributes from party leaders and fans after the news broke.
