Rugumayo finds winning form ahead of next month’s Uganda Open

South Africa-based Ugandan golfer Ronald Rugumayo is building momentum ahead of next month’s Uganda Open after winning the professional category at the Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open in Kampala. According to The Independent Uganda, he finished three shots clear of the field at Kitante, using four rounds of 68, 67, 69 and 72 to complete the 72-hole event at 12 under par.

The report said Rugumayo viewed the result as encouraging but still identified areas to sharpen before the next tournament, particularly reducing mistakes off the tee and around the greens. His recent win also followed a playoff loss to Grace Kasango in the Captain’s Bell Tournament a week earlier, suggesting he has been consistently competitive in local events.

Behind Rugumayo, Rodel Gaita placed second at 9 under par, while Kasango finished third and David Kamulindwa came fourth. In the amateur divisions, John Musimenta won the Elite Men’s category and Judith Komugisha took the ladies’ title. The Uganda Professional Golfers Association now has another busy run of events before the Uganda Open, which is scheduled for September at the same venue. The development matters because it highlights Rugumayo’s form going into one of Uganda’s key golf tournaments and reflects the growing competition among local professionals.
