Uganda Tourism Board to sponsor AFCON 2027

What the report says
The Uganda Tourism Board has signed a partnership with the Confederation of African Football that gives it official destination sponsorship rights around AFCON 2027, creating a marketing platform for Uganda ahead of the tournament. The agreement was signed in Kampala and is aimed at promoting the country through CAF’s broadcast, digital and stadium channels in the run-up to the event.
AFCON 2027, also called PAMOJA 2027, will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027. According to the report, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa said the deal could help Uganda attract tourists, investment and wider international attention, and he urged tourism stakeholders to prepare packages that go beyond football venues.
CAF acting secretary general Samson Adamu said Uganda has attractions such as wildlife, scenery, the source of the Nile and hospitality that could appeal to visiting fans and media. He also said the tournament could support hotels, restaurants, airlines, young people and local communities, while helping visitors return after the event.
The article also notes that the partnership comes amid continuing questions about infrastructure readiness in the three host countries, including stadiums, transport and accommodation. Ugandan officials quoted in the report argued that the CAF deal shows confidence in the country’s preparations and that the event should be used to strengthen the tourism sector.
