What the report says

Resident District Commissioner Babra Akech of Dokolo has urged leaders in Bata Sub-County to avoid divisionism and work more closely with civil servants to support service delivery and local development. The appeal was made during a consultative meeting on Monday organised by the Office of the RDC in Atabu Village, Atabu Parish, bringing together LC I and II leaders, parish chiefs and other representatives from six parishes in the sub-county.

According to Dokolo Post, Akech told the meeting that cooperation between elected leaders and public servants is necessary for effective implementation of government programmes. She warned that disagreements and hostile relations can slow development, and she asked leaders to respect one another and focus on community needs. She also encouraged civil servants to maintain constructive ties with political leaders, who can help facilitate their work.

The discussion came after local leaders raised concerns about worsening relations in Bata Sub-County. Kakson Ager, the Bardege LC I chairperson, called for reconciliation and said collaboration is important for carrying out budgets and development plans. Bata Sub-County LC III chairperson Ojok Alex said tensions had grown in recent months and that allegations of corruption were affecting teamwork. He pointed to District Councillor Edward Okuk Oluma, while Okuk defended his actions as part of efforts to fight corruption and protect public resources.

The meeting served as a forum to address the tensions and encourage better coordination. In general, disputes between local political leaders and administrators can affect how quickly public services and projects are delivered.
