What the report says

Resident District Commissioner Babra Akech has urged local leaders and residents in Okwongodul Sub-county, Dokolo South in Dokolo District, to step up community security efforts after reports of rising theft, robbery and other criminal activity. According to Dokolo Post, she made the appeal during a security meeting attended by LC I and LC II leaders, parish chiefs, the Gombolola Internal Security Officer, the sub-county security team and her office.

The meeting drew representatives from five parishes: Apenyoweo, Anyacoto, Ageni, Aneralibi and Okwongodul. Leaders raised concerns about persistent insecurity and its impact on households and businesses. Akech called for greater cooperation, asked LC II chairpersons to convene parish-level meetings and form committees, and warned local leaders not to keep exhibits in their personal custody, saying such items should go to the proper security agencies.

Other officials also pressed for local action. Assistant RDC Isaac Ocheng called for community meetings and rules to address local problems, including late-night loud music in trading centres. Community liaison officer Apule Sam asked for stronger security deployments in crime-prone areas and better handling of minor disputes before they escalate. The GISO, Okori Tom, cited livestock theft, wetland encroachment, witchcraft allegations and marijuana cultivation and use as contributors to insecurity.

Some local leaders said theft and marijuana-related issues were especially serious, while one chairperson alleged high household involvement in cultivation, a figure that could not be independently verified in the report. The meeting ended with calls for closer cooperation among residents, leaders and security agencies to restore order and peace in the area.
