MP Ogwal Commends Agwata Leaders for Embracing National Cleaning Day

What the report says
Dokolo North MP Joseph Jones Ogwal has praised Agwata Town Council leaders in Dokolo District for taking part in Uganda’s monthly National Cleaning Day and for encouraging residents to treat cleanliness as a shared duty. According to Dokolo Post, Ogwal joined the exercise on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Amuda Ward during the fourth edition of the nationwide clean-up campaign.
The MP said his presence was meant to help mobilise communities and promote lasting ownership of government programmes. He also commended local leaders for showing up in person, and said the effort should continue beyond the monthly exercise. The report says he has pledged to keep supporting the initiative even after leaving Parliament.
Ogwal urged people to keep their surroundings clean and green, pointing to waste collection, proper disposal, tree planting and environmental conservation as important priorities. He also linked the appeal to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, noting Dokolo’s position between Lira and Soroti cities and its role as a route for visitors heading to Akii-Bua Stadium.
Residents and local leaders quoted in the article said the campaign had improved awareness of hygiene and waste management, with some saying the area was visibly cleaner and that households were being encouraged to dig rubbish pits. As background, Uganda’s National Cleaning Day was introduced in 2026, with the last Saturday of each month set aside for cleaning activities across the country.
