What the report says

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), working with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has expanded training on Uganda’s Electronic Government Procurement System (e-GP 2.0). According to Nile Post, a three-day session in Kabale Municipality prepared officials from public institutions to move from manual procurement to a digital process.

The training took place at the MTN Spark Hub at Kabale University and included heads of departments from Kabale District Local Government, Kabale University, Kabale Regional Referral Hospital and Kabale Municipal Council. PPDA said the programme is part of a wider national rollout intended to build capacity ahead of full implementation of the system, which is currently under testing.

PPDA staff used the workshop to demonstrate practical tasks such as developing procurement plans, starting procurement processes and sending requisitions to accounting officers. The authority says the platform is meant to improve transparency, efficiency, accountability and value for money, while also allowing suppliers to register online, view tenders and receive invitations through the system.

Officials from Kabale institutions welcomed the move, saying a digital platform could reduce delays, improve competition and strengthen controls in public procurement. More broadly, the shift reflects a wider government push toward digitising procurement, which could make access easier for suppliers and improve tracking of transactions once the system is fully rolled out.
