Uganda: Kabale Police Probe Suspected Suicide of Senior Five Student

What the report says
Police in Kabale District, southwestern Uganda, are investigating the suspected suicide of a 20-year-old Senior Five student from Kigata High School, according to Nile Post, as republished by AllAfrica. The student was identified as Babra Katusiime, a resident of Ahamurangara Village in Buhara Sub-county. The report says the incident was believed to have happened on August 13, 2026, at about 6 p.m.
According to the account, Katusiime told her mother earlier that morning that she would not go to school because she had no examinations to take. Her mother then left for the garden and later returned to find her daughter hanging by a rope in the sitting room. Police were alerted, and the circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
Kigezi Region police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime used the case to urge people facing stress, depression, financial pressure or family problems to seek help from trusted relatives, community leaders or health workers. He also warned against circulating images or videos from the scene on social media, saying that such sharing can deepen the family’s grief. The death has reportedly left the student’s family, school and local residents in mourning. In general, authorities often emphasize counseling and early support in suspected suicide cases, though the published report does not indicate any confirmed motive or final conclusion.
