NRM Electoral Commission Begins Nominations for Adjumani West By-election aspirants

What the report says
The NRM Electoral Commission has begun the nomination process for aspirants seeking the party flag in the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election, according to Watchdog Uganda. Party electoral chief Kinobe urged supporters and contenders to avoid internal divisions and to agree on a single candidate if possible, saying unity would strengthen the party heading into the wider contest.
The article says the nomination exercise closes tomorrow, after which the aspirants are expected to hold joint campaigns from August 20 to September 1, 2026. Kinobe said the candidates will first meet with district leadership to agree on a shared campaign schedule and the areas they will visit, with the aim of presenting themselves together to voters and reducing friction among supporters. The National Electoral Commission will also use part of that period to update the voters’ register in the affected area, the report adds.
Watchdog Uganda reported that the NRM primary is set for September 3, 2026, if the contenders do not reach consensus before then. The winner will go on to compete in the official by-election process, for which the National Electoral Commission is scheduled to nominate candidates on September 7 and 8, 2026.
Kinobe said the process is taking place within the legal timeline for filling a parliamentary seat after the death of a member of parliament. More broadly, the development highlights how political parties in Uganda sometimes try to balance competition with internal unity before a by-election.
