What the report says

North Korea has denied accusations that it was behind the record $6.3 billion hack of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, according to Nile Post’s report. The denial came from Kim Yo Jong, a senior North Korean official and sister of leader Kim Jong Un, who said the allegations were another attempt by the United States to damage Pyongyang’s image. Her statement followed claims from the FBI, the Secret Service and cyber analysts that North Korea orchestrated the breach.

The attack has been described as the largest crypto theft on record. Investigators and blockchain analysts have linked it to a state-backed hacking group known as TraderTraitor, also associated with the Lazarus Group. The FBI has urged industry partners to help block transactions tied to accounts connected with the group. North Korea has repeatedly denied similar accusations in the past.

The report also noted Binance’s response after the hack. The exchange said early checks suggested an engineer’s laptop had been compromised, allowing unauthorized withdrawals, and it later said it had covered most of the stolen assets. Trading resumed after Binance worked with issuers to freeze affected funds, while customers withdrew more than $3.6 billion as the platform reopened. The case matters because it highlights the scale of crypto-exchange security risks and the continuing dispute over North Korea’s role in cybercrime.
