Nanyondo Rules Out Appeal After Losing Election Petition Against Katushabe

What the report says
Former Bukomansimbi District Woman MP Veronica Nanyondo has said she will not appeal the Masaka High Court ruling that dismissed her election petition against National Resistance Movement candidate Ruth Katushabe. Nanyondo, who ran on the National Unity Platform ticket, made the remarks after the court threw out her challenge to Katushabe’s win in Bukomansimbi District.
According to Nile Post, Nanyondo said she had lost faith in the appellate process after earlier setbacks in the Magistrates Court and the High Court. She argued that the evidence she presented should have been enough to support a recount, but the court did not agree. She also maintained that her opponent did not adequately defend the election result in court. Justice Rosette Kania dismissed the petition, saying the allegations were not sufficiently proved.
The dispute centered on claims of electoral irregularities, including alleged forgery of signatures on seven Declaration of Results forms. The court found there was not enough evidence to overturn the outcome. Katushabe was declared the winner with 23,481 votes, ahead of Nanyondo’s 23,275, a margin of 206 votes.
Nanyondo urged supporters to stay peaceful and said she would remain available to assist residents in the district. With no further appeal, Katushabe retains the seat and the legal challenge is effectively over.
