MP Ogwal Secures 41 Tonnes of Relief Seeds for Drought-Hit Dokolo, Warns Against Diversion

Dokolo North County Member of Parliament Joseph Jones Ogwal says Dokolo District will receive 41,000 kilogrammes of relief seeds to support farmers hit by drought and hailstorms. In remarks reported by Dokolo Post, he said the shipment includes 40,000 kilogrammes of maize seed and 1,000 kilogrammes of bean seed, and is expected to arrive under the Operation Wealth Creation programme.

Ogwal said the seeds were secured after he worked with Chief Administrative Officer Grandfield Oryono Omonda and district leaders, who had petitioned the Office of the Prime Minister through the Lango Parliamentary Group. He urged those responsible for handling the consignment not to divert it or sell it to shops or supermarkets, and said the seeds should stay in storage until the district completes its distribution plan.

The MP also said he had advised the office of Resident District Commissioner Barabra Akech to receive and safeguard the delivery in district stores before it is issued to selected households for planting during the current rains. The appeal comes after Dokolo District reported prolonged drought, suppressed rainfall and above-normal temperatures since late May 2026, conditions that it said caused crop failure, livestock losses, water shortages and food insecurity. Dokolo Post reported that the district’s July situation report cited tens of thousands of affected households and extensive losses in cattle and goats, underscoring the scale of the emergency.
