What the report says

Dokolo North MP Joseph Jones Ogwal has renewed parliamentary attention on the delayed Amodo Bridge project, a Shs7 billion crossing intended to improve transport links in Dokolo District and between Dokolo and Lira District. Dokolo Post reported that Ogwal raised the issue on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, during debate on a parliamentary committee report on government commitments.

The bridge is meant to connect Okwongodul and Agwata sub-counties and ease movement across the Amodo swamp, which becomes especially difficult during rainy seasons. According to the report, the project has faced years of delays despite a commitment by President Yoweri Museveni in 2018. In March 2026, MP Sarah Aguti Nyangkori said materials previously delivered to the site had been moved to regional stores, and she later pressed the Ministry of Works and Transport for answers.

A parliamentary committee visited the site on August 20, 2026, after concerns about slow progress. Officials told the committee the project was only about 5 percent complete, even though about Shs500 million had been released. The ministry said flooding and changing water levels from Lake Kwania had disrupted work and required design adjustments.

The ministry has now projected completion in 2028. Local leaders, including district officials, have also questioned coordination, access to project information and job opportunities for residents. The bridge is expected to support access to markets, schools, health services and trade once finished.
