What the report says
Musician Mesach Semakula has drawn backing from fellow artistes, entertainment figures and the V&A Sherry brand ahead of a concert marking his 50th birthday and long career in music, according to Nile Post. The event, titled "50 Years of Greatness," is set for November 13 at Kingdom Kampala. Support for the show was unveiled at a press conference held at Papaz Spot in Makindye on Thursday, October 29.
The gathering was attended by several well-known Ugandan performers, including Maureen Nantume, David Lutalo, Ronald Mayinja, Karole Kasita and Sophie Gombya, alongside other industry personalities. Nile Post reported that the event also carried a cultural theme, with guests appearing in traditional attire. Semakula said the concert would be a chance to celebrate his journey and thank fans for years of support, while urging them to attend for an evening of music and celebration.
Karole Kasita praised Semakula’s influence on Uganda’s music scene, describing his work as one that has reached multiple generations. V&A Sherry brand manager Angella Mpayenda said the company was supporting the concert because Semakula’s consistency and contribution made the milestone worth recognizing. She linked the sponsorship to the brand’s idea of sharing memorable moments and supporting Ugandan talent.
Tickets are being sold at Shs150,000 for ordinary entry, Shs3 million for VIP tables and Shs5 million for premium tables. The concert reflects both a personal milestone for Semakula and a wider industry show of support for veteran Ugandan artistes.
