Kwania DIS Urges Urgent Action to Eliminate Division X and U Ahead of PLE.

The Kwania District Inspector of Schools, Milly Apudu, has urged headteachers and classroom teachers to push urgently for the elimination of Division X and Division U as the district enters the final stretch before this year’s mock examinations and the Primary Leaving Examination.

Apudu made the appeal on Friday at St. Margaret Primary School while releasing pre-mock results for five schools in Aduku Town Council and Abongomola Sub-county.

The results offer an early measure of how candidates are preparing for the national assessment, with Kwania schools expected to sit mock examinations next week. Apudu said the district does not want to see learners fall into the two lowest result categories in either the mocks or the final PLE scheduled for November.

A total of 356 candidates sat for the pre-mock examinations. Four of the schools were from Aduku Town Council: Aduku Primary, Ikwera Primary, Ikwera Negri school for disable primary School, and St. Margaret Primary. Abany Primary in Abongomola Sub-county was the fifth school.

According to the released results, 66 candidates scored Division 1, while 170 were placed in Division 2. Another 43 candidates scored Division 3 and 58 scored Division 4. Twelve candidates were recorded in Division X, while seven were in Division U.

Apudu said schools must treat the pre-mock as a warning signal and use the short period before mock examinations to identify weak learners, strengthen supervision, and provide focused remedial lessons.

Andrew Omunu, the Kwania District Education Officer, said Kwania is currently ranked third among local governments in the Lango sub-region. He noted that schools in Aduku Town Council are performing well and should be supported to maintain that progress.

Omunu called on school management committees in the sub-counties and in the town council to give schools more practical support.

Joshep Ogwal, the Vice Chairperson of the Aduku Town Council Headteachers’ Association and Headteacher of Ikwera Primary, said the pre-mock examinations were introduced to prepare pupils early for PLE. He said the exercise also helps bring teachers together and encourages hard work in teaching.

“In future we intend to involve also private schools within Aduku Town Council, lobby for support from well-wishers and do this kind of exams every term,” Ogwal explained.

Ronny Omara,the Town Agent for Teduka Ward who spoke on behalf of Town Clerk of Aduku Town Council, said the town council already allocates 10 percent of school dues to schools under the council. He said that if the schools continue to perform well, that percentage could be increased.

“Work hard to influence more support from town Council authorities, politicians and other well-wishers who may have a supportive heart,” Omara said.
