Aduku Court Grants Bail to Seven UPC Supporters Over Apire LC2 Election Violence.

Aduku Grade One Court has granted bail to seven Uganda People's Congress (UPC) supporters accused of violence and malicious damage during the LC2 chairperson election for Apire Parish in Kwania District.

The suspects were released on Thursday after a bail application was presented before Grade One Magistrate Ogwal Smith.

The seven had been arrested in connection with incidents that allegedly occurred during the parish election on August 10, 2026.

They face two counts arising from the same election exercise: assault and malicious damage to property, including alleged damage to a police vehicle and election materials.

Court granted each of the accused non-cash bail of Shs1 million and set a non-cash bond of Shs2 million for each surety. They were ordered to return to court on September 17, 2026.

Among those granted bail are Oruru Patrick, 22, of Teopok; Ebong Tom, 51, of Alongomula; Otim Tonny, 22, of Angolenyang; and Otoo Samuel, 51, of Apire A. The list also includes Dickens Ogwal, the LC3 Councillor for Apire Parish.

The first count is assault, cited under Section 226 of the Penal Code Act. The allegations relate to a confrontation involving police officers from Kwania Central Police Station, including District Police Commander SP Paul Kadoogo, and Deputy Resident District Commissioner Aturu Abraham.

The second count is malicious damage to property, cited under Section 312. The prosecution alleges that a police vehicle and ballot materials were damaged during the fracas.

In granting bail, the court relied on Section 75(1) of the Magistrates Court Act, which allows a magistrate to release an applicant on bail.
