Kenya: PS Karugu Unveils Sh52mn Plan to Modernise Nyaribo Primary School

Nyaribo Primary School in Nyeri County, Kenya, is set for a major upgrade after the groundbreaking of a Sh52 million modernisation project aimed at improving learning facilities and strengthening access to science, technology and digital education. According to the report, the initiative is being led by the M-Pesa Foundation, which has committed Sh50 million, with the Ministry of Education adding Sh2 million for a Junior Secondary School science laboratory. East African Community Principal Secretary Dr Caroline Karugu led the ceremony and said the school’s new facilities would help learners move from theory-based instruction to more practical, hands-on learning.

The planned works include four permanent classrooms, a science laboratory, a computer laboratory and an ECDE centre, along with furniture and equipment. The report says older wooden structures will be removed to make room for the new buildings on the school’s five-acre site. Karugu, who is from the area, said the school had faced years of infrastructure gaps and that the upgrade would help restore dignity to the institution.

The project matters because it reflects broader efforts in Kenya to improve school infrastructure and support STEM and digital learning, especially in underserved communities. It is also expected to benefit both primary and junior secondary learners in the surrounding area.
