Kenya: PS Karugu Unveils Sh52mn Plan to Modernise Nyaribo Primary School

A major upgrade is underway at Nyaribo Primary School in Nyeri County, Kenya, after officials broke ground on a Sh52 million modernisation project aimed at improving classrooms and expanding access to science, technology and digital learning. The report says the initiative is being led by the M-Pesa Foundation, which has pledged Sh50 million, with the Ministry of Education contributing Sh2 million for a Junior Secondary School science laboratory.

East African Community Principal Secretary Dr Caroline Karugu led the ceremony on Thursday, according to Capital FM’s report republished by AllAfrica. She said the school’s existing facilities had long been inadequate and that the new investment would help learners move from limited, theory-based instruction to more practical and experimental learning. Karugu also said the upgrade would restore dignity to the institution and better prepare pupils for a digital future.

The project includes four permanent classrooms, a science laboratory, a computer laboratory and an Early Childhood Development Education centre, along with new equipment for the facilities. The old wooden structures are to be removed to make space for the new buildings on the school’s five-acre site. In addition to improving the physical environment, the development is expected to support STEM education and digital literacy for both primary and junior secondary learners in the surrounding community.
