KATS – Katende, Ssempebwa Advocates wins Best Banking and Finance Law Firm Prize

What the report says
Watchdog Uganda reported that Public Opinions has named KATS – Katende, Ssempebwa Advocates the Best Banking and Finance Law Firm in Uganda. The recognition was presented as part of Public Opinions’ wider ranking of law firms, with the firm described as one of the top 100 in Uganda out of more than 5,000 registered firms. The publication said KATS has also been confirmed for inclusion in the Public Opinions Journal for Certified Best 100 Law Firms in Uganda 2026.
According to the report, the award reflects the firm’s emphasis on international legal standards, banking and finance work, and broader contributions linked to Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The article also highlighted the firm’s long history, saying it was founded in 1969 by John W. Katende, alongside Prof. Frederick Ssempebwa, who is described as a supervising partner and a senior figure in Ugandan legal practice.
The report further noted that KATS is a full-service firm with work across litigation, transactional advisory, intellectual property, business support and pro bono services. It said the firm has more than 60 staff and serves a wide range of clients, including corporations, financial institutions and public bodies. The mention matters because it places the firm within Uganda’s legal-services market and points to continued competition among large firms for regional and international recognition.
