Oman proposed joint management of traffic through the waterway, but Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran rejected an equal split of transit routes and instead proposed that Iran manage shipping on its side.

The developments matter because the Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global energy shipments, and Al Jazeera reported oil futures rose after the US confirmed the Iranian missile attack.
