Exim Bank Uganda champions community cleanliness through National Cleaning Day in Nakasero

What the report says
Exim Bank Uganda took part in the October edition of the government’s National Cleaning Day by mobilising staff to clean the area around its head office in Nakasero, Kampala, according to The Independent Uganda. The bank said the activity was intended to support environmental cleanliness and better waste management in the neighbourhood.
The exercise was led by chief executive officer Edward Kanyike and involved employees sweeping roads and walkways, raking leaves, clearing litter, collecting waste, removing weeds and tidying public spaces around the office. The bank framed the effort as part of a broader responsibility for businesses and institutions to help keep their communities clean and healthy.
During the event, Kanyike said organisations should play an active role in supporting the places where they operate and encouraged other businesses and residents to make cleanliness part of daily life. The bank also handed over cleaning materials to Wacha Rose, the LC1 chairperson of Shimoni, to help sustain local cleaning efforts. Rose thanked the bank and urged more organisations in the area to join the initiative.
The report places the activity within Uganda’s wider push for public participation in cleanliness drives. As described by the publisher, the event was meant to show that maintaining cleaner communities requires ongoing cooperation beyond a single day of cleaning.
