What the report says

State House staff in Uganda took part in a medical camp on Friday, October 16, 2026, at Okello House in Nakasero, according to Watchdog Uganda. The event was organised to support preventive healthcare, early diagnosis and access to basic services as part of a broader staff wellness effort.

The camp offered a range of checks and services, including HIV and tuberculosis screening, cancer screening, Hepatitis B testing, blood donation, non-communicable disease screening and physiotherapy. Health workers and partner organizations also led education sessions on disease prevention, timely treatment, stigma reduction and the importance of routine medical exams. The report said the initiative was coordinated by Ms. Nachwa Viola, State House’s counsellor and HIV/TB focal person, and was tied to the Presidential Initiative aimed at ending HIV/AIDS as a public threat by 2030.

State House officials used the occasion to encourage staff to prioritize regular check-ups and healthier lifestyles. Ms. Hope Nyakairu, Under Secretary for Finance and Administration, said the camp reflected institutional concern for employees and their families. Mr. Benon Twinobusingye, Head of Human Resource, said healthy staff are more productive and should take advantage of early testing and treatment.

The report also said speakers highlighted the value of blood donation and routine cancer screening, with one blood services official citing about 50 units collected during the camp. In general, workplace wellness programmes are often used by public institutions to identify health problems early and encourage prevention, especially for conditions that may not show symptoms right away.
