Dokolo North MP Joins Bata Residents in National Cleaning Day

Dokolo North County MP Joseph Jones Ogwal joined residents of Bata Town Council in Dokolo District for the monthly National Cleaning Day, according to Dokolo Post. The report says he took part on Saturday and framed the exercise as a chance to lead by example, connect with constituents and support a national effort focused on cleaner communities.

Ogwal used the occasion to argue that cleaning campaigns should be matched by stronger waste management systems. He urged better sorting, collection and disposal of rubbish, warned against burning plastics, and called for waste segregation facilities and more private-sector involvement. He also linked poor waste handling to environmental damage and public health concerns, saying it can contribute to hygiene-related illnesses.

Local officials and residents said the initiative is gaining traction in Bata. Bata Town Council LCIII chairperson Shaban Ocen said sanitation had improved and noted that local leaders, including schools, were helping mobilise the community. He also pointed to the lack of designated garbage disposal sites as a major challenge and appealed for government support on local infrastructure.

The report adds that the National Cleaning Day is held on the last Saturday of each month, with the government having launched the programme in July 2026 to promote environmental cleanliness and public health. A pupil who took part said the exercise helped young people learn responsibility and contribute to a cleaner community.
